Yesterday I pressed snooze 4 times.
I dreamt of the past, but my dad told me not to trip on something that’s behind me.
So I put my toes in the grass and stared at the sky.
I brought my mug into the car, because lately, bringing a mug into the car feels like the right thing to do.
If the coffee spills, the coffee spills.
The coffee spilt.
I slid around the snow and gave gratitude to the sun because it’d be far too long since I chatted with her.
The sun and the snow have a complicated relationship.
But yesterday, a glorious thing happened.
They got along just fine.
My skis moved down the mountain with ease. The slush flew close behind.
My friends made me crack up all day.
I laughed and laughed and all the sudden
tripped on something behind me.
Straight into the concrete.
Bruised with purple disillusionment.
I laughed some more.
My dearest friend Solitude has been calling me nonstop
Lately, I’ve been declining her calls.
So I took a walk by the lake and tried to give her the time of day
She wasn’t as reachable as I’d remembered.
The wind smacked me in the face and reminded me that you can’t abandon then expect the same amount of grace.
I promised Solitude I’d show up for her
Like I used to.
It’s just that I got a little lost. A little distracted. A little lonely.
She forgave me, like all good friends do.
Reminded me that you can never be lonely if there are trees
And if the wind sings
She told me that as long as I try to find her, she’ll find me back.
Back to myself.
So I poured myself a glass of water with a sprinkle of forgiveness.
Hopefully it kicks in soon.
